St. Bernardus // Pater 6
St. Bernardus beers have been brewed in the St. Bernardus brewery since 1946 making only Dark and Blond Abbey ales. Members of the Belgian Family Brewers, all their beer is highly fermented and brewed with high quality malts, hops and yeast.
After decades of brewing the famed Westvleteren Trappist ales under license, it was in 1992 that these ales, as we know them today, became known as St. Bernardus. As such, the St. Bernardus Abbey Ales are the closest commercially-available match both in flavour and recipe to the Westvleteren ales.
The St. Bernardus Pater 6 is a classic abbey-style Dubbel ale. Using hops from the brewery’s own hopfield, this Belgian dubbel’s notes of raisin, dates, figs, caramel, spice, banana and tartness are complemented by a mildly bitter, herbal hoppiness. This traditional abbey ale is a medium-bodied and delightfully easy drink.
